Ingredients

8 oz cream cheese

1/2 cup unsalted butter

3 1/2 cups powdered sugar

1 box chocolate cake mix

1/2 cup vegetable oil

1 cup water

3 large eggs

1 cup sweetened shredded coconut

1 cup chopped pecans

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.

2. Sprinkle the bottom of the dish with shredded coconut and chopped pecans.

3. In a mixing bowl, prepare the chocolate cake batter according to box instructions using eggs, oil, and water. Pour over the coconut and pecans.

4. In another bowl, beat together the cream cheese and melted butter until smooth.

5. Gradually add powdered sugar and mix until fully incorporated and creamy.

6. Drop spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture on top of the cake batter.

7. Swirl the cream cheese through the batter using a butter knife.

8. Sprinkle chocolate chips generously over the top.

9. Bake for 40–45 minutes until edges are set and the center is gooey.

10. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Don’t over-swirl the cream cheese mixture; a few swipes is enough for that signature marble look.

Let the cake sit 10–15 minutes after baking for cleaner slices and firmer texture.
